Referral Process

We welcome urgent referrals. If you would like a patient to be seen urgently please contact the Clinic on our dedicated Doctor's Direct Llne for an urgent, same day appointment. Our Doctor's Direct Line operates from 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday giving the option of direct access to on call cardiologist advice, or direct access to a staff member who may assist you.  Please call our practice manager, Jan, who will gladly provide you with the dedicated number.

Unstable patients with chest pain or ECG features of acute ischaemia should be referred directly to your local hospital via ambulance. 

Referrals can be submitted via the website by completing the form below, or sent electronically (Healthlink or Argus), or faxed direct to the clinic on 03 6334 2424. All referrals are reviewed and appointments made for the patients based on urgency.  If the referral is urgent please advise us via the Doctors Direct Line.

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced full-time cardiac sonographer/echocardiographer to join our team at Charles Clinic Heart Care.

General sonographers considering retraining in cardiac are welcome to apply.

Charles Clinic Heart Care, established in 2010, has rapidly grown to become a nationally recognised centre of excellence offering comprehensive cardiac services to the Tasmanian community.

Our team includes twelve visiting and three full-time cardiologists, several of whom are nationally recognised. We have five qualified echocardiographers and are in the process of recruiting another trainee.

The successful applicant will be required to:

  • Independently perform high quality echocardiograms and stress echocardiograms. Experience in GLS, CRT, 3-D, and adult congenital echo would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Assist with transoesophageal echo, ECGs, holter monitors.
  • Involvement in regular regional clinics in Northern Tasmania.

The successful applicant will possess:

  • ASAR accreditation in cardiac ultrasound.
  • Considerable clinical experience in echocardiography and cardiac testing.
  • Outstanding diagnostic and analytical skills.
  • High calibre interpersonal skills.
  • Good work ethic.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • An ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • An ability to analyse Holter would be viewed favourably, but is not essential.
  • Current driver’s licence.

The successful applicant must:

Provide a criminal record check prior to commencement of employment.

Ensure their immunisation status (Hep B, influenza etc.) is up to date prior to commencement.

Charles Clinic Heart Care is one of Australia’s fastest growing cardiology practices. Situated in Launceston, Tasmania, we are a high-quality service currently employing four full-time and eleven visiting cardiologists. Currently we have 27,000 patients and provide over 30,000 services per year.

We are seeking a pleasant, caring and experienced interventional cardiologist who must be able to work well within our team and possess the judgement and skills to operate confidently without local cardiac surgical support.

Charles Clinic initiated the building of a private angiography Lab with Calvary St Vincent’s hospital which opened in 2017. The fully equipped Philips lab is now approved for angioplasty services.

We have increasing demand for angiography and angioplasty services with outstanding capacity for long term significant growth. Calvary is in the process of establishing a coronary care unit.

Our staff include seven cardiac sonographers, two exercise physiologists and a large administrative support team. We have an extensive, nationally recognised, regional outreach program throughout the north of the state and are currently building a diagnostic centre at Burnie in the North West.

Our modern rooms provide a professional, harmonious and supportive working environment utilising leading practice software integration and data management. We provide a full range of high-quality non-invasive and pacemaker services using state of the art equipment. We have established a cardiac rehabilitation and risk factor management service and close affiliations with major local and Victorian hospitals.

Applicants for this position must be eligible for registration with AHPRA (Medical Board of Australia) together with a cardiology accredited fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians, or equivalent specialist overseas qualification. Remuneration will be based on skills and experience.

Fee Structure

Pension and Health Care Card holders are bulk billed for diagnostic testing with the exception of blood pressure monitors.
DVA card holders - no out of pocket expenses.

There is a gap for all patients who have a consultation.
